- They aim to build a well and teach the people living in the area about health and hygiene in order to reduce their mortality rates and improve their living conditions
- The execution of the project counts on the collaboration of Fundación Esperanza y Alegría
AUARA, a solidary mineral water brand that destines 100% of its dividends to bring drinkable water to communities that lack it, and the European leader in the vending sector and automatic restoration, Selecta, have joined Fundación Esperanza y Alegría to make a social project that will improve the quality of life of more than 1.000 people in the city of Ayyampatty, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
The project consists of building a well and installing a submergible water pump that will allow filling a deposit to supply drinking water to the centers of St. Mary Magdalene Church and St. Joseph´s Primary School. Likewise, the project includes the formation of students and the inhabitants of the area on subjects such as health, hygiene, sanitation, illnesses caused by water, and preventive measures.
With these actions in place, it is expected to reduce mortality rates and improve living conditions for the population of this area. This community is 90% agriculturally based and in recent years it has seen the depletion of aquifers due to the lack of rainfall during the seasonal monsoons.
In India, more than 37.7 million people suffer from illnesses caused by contaminated water, and around 1.5 million children die from diarrhea and other similar illnesses each year.
AUARA and Selecta are working together to try and ameliorate this situation. All of AUARA´s water sales made through Selecta´s vending machines will be destines to this social project, which counts on Fundación Esperanza y Alegría´s collaboration.
AUARA is the first Spanish social enterprise to be certified by Social Enterprise Mark.
