Subsistence Support for Women and Women with Children

Sierra Leon

After the bloody civil war, which took place in Sierra Leon, many women, who were kidnapped and used as sex slaves, were left to their fate.

OBJECTIVES

To remove the women affected by the civil war from the street, to train them in a job and to reintegrate them socially and economically.

LOCATION

Sierra Leon

After the bloody civil war, which took place in Sierra Leon, many women, who were kidnapped and used as sex slaves, were left to their fate. Their families often rejected these women for having the offspring of the enemy forcing the women to fight to survive. Many had no place to go and turned to jobs such as prostitution to gain money and provide for their children.

This project was in collaboration with Caritas Makeni, with the aim to help these women off the streets and train them in work which would reintegrate them into the community, both in an economic and social sense.
