Fundación Esperanza y Alegría and Fundación Llorente & Cuenca create Sé Esperanza to increase food donations in El Pozo del Tío Raimundo
In 2017, Fundación Esperanza y Alegría and Fundación Llorente & Cuenca signed a collaboration agreement to support the cause that Asociación de Vecinos de El Pozo del Tío Raimundo (Madrid) and Fundación Esperanza y Alegría have been working on in this neighborhood. This collaboration translates into an awareness-raising plan developed by Fundación Llorente & Cuenca to give more visibility to the project and aim to increase the number of food bags that are delivered weekly to the most vulnerable families of the area.
With this idea in mind Sé Esperanza is born, a very visual and easy to navigate website, whose objective is to create awareness about the reality of this neighborhood, bring visibility to the work being done by the volunteers, and increase the number of individual donations.
The name Sé Esperanza was created in honor of Esperanza Castro, a resident of this neighborhood who delivered food door to door to offset the suffering and the difficult situation her neighbors were going through years before the project was created. Esperanza is the alma mater of this project, for she, along with 10 other volunteers, hand out basic food products to low income families in risk of social exclusion in El Pozo del Tío Raimundo.
Since 2017, Fundación Esperanza y Alegría collaborates with this project in which they distribute bags of food every Thursday to 275 families in need in the neighborhood of El Pozo de Tío Raimundo. These families have an income lower than 500 euros a month, and a many of them have three or four minors, a dependent elder or a disabled family member.
This project, directed by Asociación de Vecinos de El Pozo del Tío Raimundo, counts on the support of two other associations, who thanks to Banco de Alimentos, provide between 1.500 and 2.000 kilos of food a week such as fruit, legumes and vegetables, among others
Solidarity in the fight against hunger
Coinciding with World Food Day, here at Fundación Esperanza y Alegría we want to take the opportunity to share this project and strengthen the solidarity in the fight against hunger. The objective of this day is to create awareness on the global food problem and our fight to end hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
