The Bhopal disaster took place on the 3rd December 1984, due to a leak of 45 tons of methyl in a pesticide Factory, property of the American company Union Carbide.

It is estimated that between 6,000 – 8,000 died in the first week after the toxic leak and at least 12,000 others died afterwards as a direct result of the catastrophe, which affected more than 600,000 people, 15000 of whom suffered grave consequences. In addition, thousands of cattle and domestic animals were killed. The whole environment was contaminated with toxic substances and heavy metals which will take many years to disappear.

After the catastrophe, it was estimated that the risk of a miscarriage increased but 300% and due to this the Foundation collaborated in the construction of a genealogical clinic.
